You will learn about the growth of this holiday phenomenon in the Dyker Heights neighborhood, including two neighbors who fiercely stake a competing claim. How the Tour Works

• The public tour is conducted on most days December 1 -30.
• There are generally multiple start times to choose from, such as 5:00PM, 7:30PM and/or other times.
• The length is approximately 1.5 -2 hours.
• Walking distance is approximately 2 miles / 3 kilometres.
• The tour consists of a guided walk through the neighborhood.

The tour meets in a central location which is easily accessible by public transit or automobile.

Private tours

This tour is also offered for private groups.

It’s perfect for families, friends, etc.

Please note that with all options, it is necessary to walk a large amount of the tour (because of police restrictions). Even if there is a vehicle – it is necessary to walk in order to see the main houses. Minimum walking distance is at least 0.5 miles.

There are 3 options:

Option 1) Private walking tour – meet by subway station in Brooklyn.

Tour costs:

1-5 people: $190
Plus $10 person, up to 10 people.

Option 2) Private driving + walking tour within Brooklyn – meet by subway station in Dyker Heights. Cost: same as Option 1, plus 2 hours of vehicle time. Vehicle costs are listed below.
This option still requires walking. The benefit of the vehicle is that we can skip the walk from the subway and drive directly to the lights district (although we will have to walk once we arrive at the district), and there will be a warm place to take refuge in as needed. We can also try to drive through as much of the district as possible, depending on police enforcement of the restrictions.

Option 3) Private driving + walking tour with pickup – vehicle pickup in Manhattan (or at a location of your choice). Cost: same as Option 1, plus 3-4 hours of vehicle time. The exact cost will depend on how long the drive will take. You should tell us where you want pickup/drop off and we will tell you how long we think the drive will take.

Vehicle costs:
1-5 people: $70 per hour (approximately). 2 hour minimum.
6-15 people: $175 per hour (approximately). 4 hour minimum.
16-35 people: $200 per hour (approximately). 4-6 hour minimum.
36-54 people: $240 per hour (approximately). 4-6 hour minimum.

Disclaimers:

• The weather is very cold. The temperatures are an average of -4 to 4 Celsius, or 25 to 40 Fahrenheit. Please dress very warmly. Please do not bring anybody who will resent the cold.
• There is a long amount of walking – and the group walks fast. Please do not bring anybody who cannot handle a long fast walk.
• Please do not bring any of the following types of people: elderly, physically difficult, children, babies.
• This is a walking tour – the public tour does not include any vehicle whatsoever.
• We are walking public streets. Everything that we do on the tour is available on your own for free. We do not claim to be offering any type of exclusive access. What we are providing is the following: a guided walk utilizing the best route while providing insight, history and interesting information.
• The meeting place for the public tour is designed for travel by subway. The subway is far away from the light district – but most customers arrive by subway. Therefore we meet at the subway and then walk a long distance to reach the lights. If you are arriving by vehicle: please be aware that there is extra walking due to the fact that we meet by the subway.
• Parking: please contact us more than 24 hours in advance so that we can provide you with parking information.

Groups / DMC’s / Tour Operators

We can provide this as a walking tour, or driving/bus/step-on tour. We can provide a vehicle (please see vehicle costs above) or we can guide the tour with your bus. Even if there is a vehicle, it is necessary to conduct most of the tour on foot (because of police restrictions). Walking distance is approximately 6-10 blocks.
