This walking tour leads you through Brooklyn’s hippest neighborhood of Williamsburg. Discover cutting-edge culture, fascinating history, and creative street art.

Experience Brooklyn’s sights and culture on a relaxed neighborhood stroll. Over the course of 2 hours you will be immersed in a laid-back district of boutique shops, restaurants and restored lofts. You will walk the streets and take in a scene that’s setting global trends. You will encounter innovative small-businesses, creative architecture, and vibrant street artwork. Expect to be presented with a one-of-a-kind view of New York City’s waterfront and skyline.

As you witness the phenomenon of Brooklyn, your guide will reveal its fascinating history. Learn about Brooklyn’s legacy as a capital of immigration, manufacturing and beer brewing. Please note: this is not a detailed historical tour. It is a basic overview. A large number of attendees are visiting NYC for the first time, or do not understand English well. However If you have any specific historical or socioeconomic questions, please ask the tour guide. Williamsburg

Williamsburg is arguably the ‘hottest’ neighborhood in Brooklyn, and one of the trendiest districts in New York City. It is a hub of creativity celebrated for its innovative businesses, vibrant culture, abundant dining, and energetic nightlife. Its streets are filled with youth-oriented, ‘hip’ folks from around the world who have come to participate in the trendy scene and its local community.

Culture

Williamsburg is brimming with culture, which plays a vital role in the fabric of the cosmopolitan community.  Art is on display everywhere: from the walls of galleries to outside on fences and sidewalks. Underground urban fashion is defined by local independent boutiques and secondhand clothing shops. Innovative small businesses create an abundance of tasty food and artisanal craft products. And up-and-coming indie bands draw throngs of crowds to the area’s music venues.

Gentrification

Williamsburg acquired its status as a capitol of culture only in recent years. Like other sections of New York City it has undergone a gentrification which transformed much of it from a desolate industrial streetscape. This ‘urban renewal’ has altered the neighborhood by bringing energy, creativity and increased cosmopolitan lifestyle options. But it has also brought controversy: as new developments are being built progressively larger and more expensive, there are critics who perceive them as a threat to the area’s authenticity and character. Worse, rising prices drive out lower-income residents.

History & Brewing Legacy

Williamsburg and neighboring areas were once a top place of beer brewing in the USA, with over 45 breweries operating in Brooklyn. The breweries were established by enterprising immigrants who brought lager recipes with them over from Europe. Some of these men, who were of the wealthiest people in town, had first arrived in the US penniless without speaking a single word of English.

On this tour we will get into the history in Brooklyn and Williamsburg.
On the public tour it will only be a basic overview – this is due to feedback we have received from attendees about how much information they want to hear.
On a private tour we can delve deeper into the history if you desire it!

Street art

Williamsburg and neighboring areas are the center of a bustling graffiti and street art scene. The combination of its creative population and post-industrial landscape form a catalyst that breeds revolutionary artistic expression. Williamsburg’s walls, storefronts, billboards, poles and sidewalks host all types of art, produced by artists both local and international.
On the tour expect to view creative street art, and learn about the quirky, ambitious artists behind them…
We generally cover a few interesting artworks on this tour. Although this is not a dedicated ‘street art’ tour. We offer a separate graffiti & street art walking tour which takes place in the nearby Bushwick neighborhood.

How the Tour Works

• The public tour is conducted on various days at 3:00pm.
• The length is approximately 2 hours.
• Walking distance is approximately 1.5 miles / 2 kilometres.
• The tour consists of a guided walk through the neighborhood.

The tour meets in a central location which is easily accessible by public transit or automobile.

Private and Group Tours

This walking tour is also available as a private tour for pre-formed groups such as families, students, seniors etc. It is available any time.

We can accommodate 1-50 people.

Rates: For individual private groups pricing begins at $190 for 1-4 people. Add $10 for each person up to 10. For 11 or more people is $24 per person.
